The land of Texas has been inhabited for thousands of years and has been mostly populated by Native American Tribes such as the Akokisa, Karankawa, Mogollon, and Comanche. The first Europeans to settle in Texas were Spanish missionaries (as they were promoting Christianity in the region) in San Antonio around the year 1718. 

After the War of Mexican Independence and several other revolutionary wars, the land was mostly populated with hostile natives. In 1821, the Mexicans took over the land and named it Coahuila y Tejas. With time the Mexican government began to allow U.S settlers to claim land in the region which led to a huge growth in the number of Americans in the area while the Mexican population decreased causing tension between the people. 

By now most of the people had begun to call the region simply Texas and as the friction between the Mexicans and American Texans grew, the war eventually broke out. In 1835, the settlers decided to finally rebel and began the Texas revolution. In 1836, despite suffering a big loss at the Battle of the Alamo, the rebels continued to oppose the Mexican army, and eventually, Texas declared its independence in 1836 and named itself the Republic of Texas

With time, however, Texans realized they lacked the strength and power to defend themselves against further Mexican incursions, and with this threat constantly looming over their heads, Texas finally decided to give up its sovereignty and join the United States in 1945. 

Just like Texas is one of the largest states in the country and the most diverse, the temperature throughout the region is diversified too. From March to May, temperatures in spring hover around the 60s and 70s with occasional rain here and there. If you are fortunate enough to find yourself in Texas during springtime, you can be sure to witness the famous state flower, bluebonnet, bloom in full swing through the region.

Texas winters can be mild and very tolerable. Snow is not a common occurrence in the state of Texas although can be expected in some parts of North Texas. January is the coldest month of the year with few areas seeing temperatures below freezing.
