History of Fort Worth

Cowtown Coliseum Fort Worth Texas

Fort Worth is a city in north-central Texas and one of Texas's five most prominent cities. It was established in 1849 by a Mexican American hero who went by General William Jenkins Worth. The city was named after him after he created a camp on the bank of the Trinity River to protect East Texas settlers from the attacks of the Native Americans. The city was officially named Fort Worth on November 14, 1849, by The United States War Department. Fort Worth suffered a significant setback during the civil war as the demand for food, money, and supplies increased with little or no resources. This setback caused a drastic decrease in population to as low as 175 residents but was reinstated during reconstruction. In 1872, William Jesse Boaz, Jacob Samuels, and William Henry Davis opened general stores. The following year, Tidball was established by Kleber M. Van Zandt and Company, which became Fort Worth National Bank in 1884. Fort Worth has been the fastest growing city in the United States since 2000. The city is recognized as one of America's most livable communities, making it the perfect city for you to buy a house, land, or mobile home. In 2020, it was announced by the Fort Worth Mayor that the city's continued growth rose about 20.78%.
