Tarrant County is named after General Edward Tarrant. General Tarrant fought in the war of 1812, and came to be commander of the Republic of Texas’ forces at the Battle of Hill Creek. He later served in the Texas House of Representatives, both under the Republic of Texas and later the state of Texas.
