Fresno is the county seat of Fresno County. The total area of Fresno is 112.3 square miles. The city is located in the middle of the San Joaquin Valley of Central California. As of 2020, Fresno has a population of 542,107. It is considered the largest inland city and the fifth largest city in the state of California. Fresno is also the 34th largest city in the country. The residents of Fresno are 55.3 percent White, 49.7 percent Latino or Hispanic, 14.4 percent Asian, 7.2 percent Black or African American, and 9.2 percent of two or more races.

During the 20th century, Fresno was the center of numerous industries. It was also because of this wide variety of industries that the city experienced an extensive problem. In 1910, a huge labor dispute occurred. Fortunately, it was quickly resolved. For the succeeding years, Fresno became the major market for cattle, cotton, poultry, fruits, dairy items, vegetables, wine, dried fruits, cotton goods, carpets, glass, and machinery. New markets and technologies also emerge in Fresno.
