Beebe’s Corners was a carriage that originally settled at the corner of Mound Road and Chicago Road in 1830, and grew to become the city of Warren. The settlement began its journey to become Warren Township in 1837 under the name Hickory, which was renamed Aba in 1838 and later renamed Warren. The city is named after frontier cleric Rev. Abel Warren, a War Veteran of 1812. However, there are claims that Warren city got its name from General Joseph Warren, who fell at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The settlement was officially incorporated as the Village of Warren from Warren Township in 1893. The village began with a population of 890 people in 1900, but the growth was relatively fast, reaching 23,658 in 1940. The population began to grow after the construction of the Chrysler’s Truck Assembly Plant in 1938, the Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant in 1940, and the General Motors Technical Center between 1949 and 1956. The Village of Warren was incorporated as a city in 1957, and due to the rapid economic growth and numerous job opportunities in the car assembly plants, the population in the city soared to more than 80,000 in the 1960s. The rapid population growth was also fueled by the post-WWII baby boom and white flight from Detroit.
