The real estate industry in the United States is a volatile market due to the ever-increasing price of properties and inflation in the country. Founded in 1819 by Territorial Governor Lewis Cass, Oakland County comprises 62 cities and has its county seat in Pontiac. Twice its current size at its inception, other counties were formed from its land area as its population soared. Oakland enjoyed tremendous growth towards the end of the 19th century, with the rail lines built, and the county also attracted carriage and wagon factories. By 1840, Oakland had over 50 lumber mills harvested from the Upper Peninsula and the region.
The county experienced an economic boom in the early 1900s when the auto age enveloped its first city, Pontiac. The Oakland Motor Car Company was founded in 1907. It became a part of General Motors Corp, which became Pontiac's dominant firm. Oaklands County's population enjoyed another massive growth in the 1950s when Detroiters began migrating to the suburbs.
