The original occupants of Westchester, the Algonquian-speaking Wappinger Indians, were driven in the 1640s by Dutch colonists by the Hudson River and by New England colonists along what is now the Connecticut border; the majority of the Wappinger relocated westward in 1756. The Province of New York absorbed Westchester following the surrender of New Netherland to the English in 1664, and the county was designated one of the state's initial counties in 1683. Chester, England, was the inspiration for the name. In the American Revolution, it was the location of major military activity, including the Battle of White Plains on October 28, 1776, a campaign by British Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton in 1779, and the capture by the Americans of British spy Major John André near Tarrytown in 1780. Today, however, it is a diverse blend of cultures and scenery that makes it a unique destination.

Peekskill Westchester County New York

Many people who live in New York City are fond of Westchester County. Perhaps due to the less stressful and higher quality of life and the excessive home prices in Manhattan. Whatever the case, tens of thousands of people have flocked to the enclaves of New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, and Rye.

It is well known that the real estate prices in New York City's five boroughs reach costly peaks. Therefore one choice – or rather an obligation – is to look into the surrounding counties, which are greener and a little further away from the city core. Therefore, there has been a significant surge in real estate sales in nearby counties, particularly Westchester, offering an ideal opportunity to invest in the Westchester County real estate marketplace.
