The area now known as Cook County was originally part of DuPage County. In 1831, the General Assembly divided DuPage County and created Cook County. Nevertheless, the name stuck, and today we continue to use it.

"Cook County" actually has a pretty long and exciting history. It was named after Daniel Cooke, one of the first settlers in the area. He arrived in the early 1800s, and many people believe that he called the County after himself. Interestingly, Cooke didn't stay in the area for very long. He only lived there for a few years before moving back to his hometown in New York. But even though he didn't stay, his name lives on in the County.

So that's the story of how Cook County got its name. It may not be a fascinating story, but it's still a pretty cool place to live or visit. Get land for sale in Cook County, Illinois.
