Flagler to expand the Florida East Coast Railway to the area in exchange for half of their land. Finally, Flagler agreed to expand the railroad when the winter of 1894-1895 devastated Florida’s citrus crop. Furthermore, Flagler constructed the Royal Palm Hotel, which is the start of promoting tourism. In that same year, Miami was incorporated.
