Tuttle (the “mother of Miami”) decided to transfer to the area. In 1896, Brickell and Tuttle asked Henry M. Flagler to expand the Florida East Coast Railway to the area in exchange for half of their land. Finally, Flagler agreed to expand the railroad when the winter of 1894-1895 devastated Florida’s citrus crop. Furthermore, Flagler constructed the Royal Palm Hotel, which is the start of promoting tourism. In that same year, Miami was incorporated.
