History of West Virginia

History of West Virginia

History of West Virginia

The history of West Virginia stems from the 1861 Wheeling Convention, which was an assembly of northwestern Virginian Southern Unionists, who aimed to repeal the Ordinance of Secession that Virginia made during the American Civil War (1861–1865). It became one of two American states that formed during the American Civil War—the other being Nevada in 1864. It was the only state to form from another state during this time, splitting from Virginia. West Virginia was officially admitted as a U.S. state on June 20, 1863.

The area that comprises West Virginia was originally part of the British Virginia Colony (1607–1776) and the western part of the U.S. state of Virginia (1776–1863). Western Virginia became sharply divided over the issue of secession from the Union, leading to the separation from Virginia, and formalized by West Virginia's admittance to the Union as a new state in 1863. West Virginia was one of five Civil War border states.

During the late 19th and early 20th century, West Virginia saw its population grow, due in large part to the economic job opportunities provided by the coal and logging industries. Since the mid-20th century, West Virginia has experienced population declines due in large part to its citizens leaving for opportunities elsewhere. West Virginia's history has been profoundly affected by its mountainous terrain, spectacular river valleys, and rich natural resources. These were all factors driving its state economy and the lifestyles of residents, as well as drawing visitors to the state. West Virginia's nickname is known as the "Mountain State" due to its landscape being largely covered by the Appalachian Mountains.

West Virginia Demographics

Large group of people forming the shape of West Virginia

Located in the Appalachian Southeastern, Mid-Atlantic region, the state is home to 1,793,716 2020 people as of December 2021, with the largest city, Charleston,  having some 48,006 inhabitants. The state’s ratio of females to males is 50.6% to 49.4%.

The median age stands at 41.9 years, with the most recent statistics indicating that the racial composition of West Virginia comprises 93.08% White, 3.69% Blacks or African Americans, 0.80% Asians, 1.77% two or more races, 0.20% Native Americans, 0.02% Native Hawaiians, and 0.44% of other races.

This kind of ethnic and racial diversity means there is every chance that new condo owners will encounter persons of their own race.

Findings suggest that lately, West Virginia has registered dismal population growth with fingers pointing this unlikely turn of events to the feeling that a majority of the inhabitants are aging faster. Moreover, births are being outnumbered by deaths, at the same time newcomers make up only a modest gain.

In terms of religion, West Virginia is a true justification of interfaith unity. So tolerant and diverse are West Virginians that they have coined a joke that even someone from Mars would be free to tag along and practice their religion. Nonetheless, Christian faithfuls are the most dominant group, making up about 78% of the entire religious base; about 3%are non-Christians, with 18% not associating with any particular faith.

But perhaps what makes West Virginia stand tall is its lived embodiment of an ideal polite society. The inhabitants are humble, unpretentious, and pretty much among the nicest people anyone would ever come across. Even though the general state pride runs deep, new residents are always welcome. Therefore, new owners of West Virginia condos should be assured of peace, and quetitude.

Climate and Weather

Climate and Weather

Condos in West Virginia

Residents of West Virginia enjoy all four weather seasons of about equal length. Except for a marine modification within the eastern panhandle, the state experiences a humid continental climate. July is usually the warmest month with a statewide average of 23º C, while January is the coldest with an average temperature of 1º C. Since the state lies in the latitude zone of the westerly winds, most storm fronts or wind directions will come from the southwest, west, or northwest.

But generally, the climate is exceptionally mild, and condo owners will most likely adapt quickly.

A definitive advantage of owning a  West Virginia condo is that you'd find life quite affordable. Things will come at a cost next to nothing all year round especially in rural areas.

A good number of the state's counties are designated as rural, however, most people live in non-farm areas such as Charleston. Thus, condos in Huntington West Virginia,Charlestown, and those in upmarket neighborhoods such as Wassabo condo West Virginia would be expected to be densely populated. On the other hand, those in somewhat campestral areas such as Seneca condo west virginia would be sparsely  populated.

West Virginia is divided into the Ridge and Valley Province and the Appalachian Plateau Province, and together they make up the state's physiographic system. These two regions are separated by the Allegheny Front which divides the waters that flow to the Gulf of Mexico from the one flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. Two-thirds of the Western area is covered with the Appalachian Plateau Province, which coincides with the Ohio River drainage basin. This expanse is separated by a constellation of streams which further morph into a maze of valleys and hills that viewers will find explicitly scenic and beautiful. Such is what it means to own a condo home in West Virginia, to wake up to the kind of scenic view typical of safaris and wild camp tours. The sight of lush greeneries, plains interspaced with rugged terrain, and the sound and feel of nature as pristine and original direct from the source is a sure bet. A West Virginia mountain condo would therefore  be ideal if you are looking to spruce your mornings with great views of nature. In this case, you may need to consider Snowshoe west virginia condos where the terrain is rugged and full of forested  escarpments and hills.

West Virginia's allure of nature will certainly attract a number of new home buyers who would particularly enjoy the range of outdoor activities, including mountain biking, hiking, whitewater rafting, and skiing that the state is historically known for. Take, for instance, the Glade Spring in Daniels, West Virginia, with its scenic backdrop Allegheny Mountains, the gated community with condos ranging from $120,000 to $1.5 million offers a wide range of mountain resorts based living amenities. They include a 69-acre private lake for fishing, three championship golf courses, as well as 26 miles of nature trails. Condo and other property owners are given special membership rates at the Glade Springs Golf and Country Club. This membership allows residents to access a top-ranked golf course designed by George Cobb as well as the resort at Glade Springs' Leisure center. Condo owners will also have quick access to other recreational pursuits, such as fly fishing, skiing, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting.
