The completion of the railroad resulted in a major economic boom, increasing the population from 4,762 in 1871 to 108,783 in 1890. Apart from the railway, military activities and defense constructions related to World War II contributed to the expansion of Denver's economy. However, most of these activities ended in the 1990s.
