Appropriately, Toledo is named The Glass City. As a city that has been through a lot of ups and downs, it reflects the process of making glass. Similarly, the city of Toledo has experienced highs and lows showing its character now as a city of modernity, stronger than ever before.

History of Toledo

History of Toledo

ohio history

The city of Toledo was founded in 1833 and named after its sister city Toledo, Spain due to the likeness of industrial leadership. In 1835, both Ohio and Michigan claimed Toledo as their own, leading to the Toledo War. As the 1840s progressed, so did the city of Toledo as the Miami-Erie Canal and the railway running through the city brought an increase in population. From the beginning, Toledo was and is an industrial city with glass taking the lead as the top-produced product. In the 1920s and 1930s, it became a common ground for rum runners who were bringing in alcohol from Canada via the Great Lakes. The 1980s were hard on Toledo with a downturn in industrial production in the US and tough economics. However, modern-day Toledo, Ohio real estate is gaining traction and attention for its beautification, economic expansion, and increase in leaders across groundbreaking industries such as green energy.
