The city of Chandler was discovered by Dr. Alexander John Chandler. Dr. Chandler was the first veterinary surgeon to settle in the Arizona Territory. He settled on a ranch south of Mesa, where he studied irrigation engineering in 1891. By 1900, he had acquired 73km² of land and began drawing up plans for a townsite. At that time, the townsite was known as the Chandler Ranch. On May 16, 1912, the townhouse office was officially opened. The original townsite was bordered by Frye Road to the south, Galveston Street to the north, Hamilton Street to the east, and Hartford Street to the west. By 1913, Chandler had an established town center that featured the Hotel San Marcos. This hotel was also the first grass golf course in the territory of Arizona. In 1914, Chandler High School was established. This accelerated the town's growth, which was incorporated on Feb 16, 1920. Dr. A.J Chandler, the town's founder, was unanimously chosen as the town's first mayor and president of the Town Council. During the Great Depression, most of Chandler's economy was sustained thanks to thriving local businesses. However, a few years later, the cotton business crashed and significantly impacted Chandler's economy. The city worked on getting back to its feet with diversifying investments. The Williams Air Force Base's creation in 1941 triggered a slight surge in the city's population. However, Chandler only had a population of 3,700 by 1950. Several decades later, in 1980, the city's population had risen to 30,000 due to various attractions. Since the early 1990s, Chandler has experienced significant development and growth, ranking among the fastest-growing cities in the country. The thriving local economy and spontaneous development have increased the demand for real estate for sale in Chandler, Arizona.
