The history of Vegas can be traced to over 2,000 years ago, when Nomadic Paleo-Indians first occupied the land. The first non-Native American to set foot on the territory was a Mexican scout named Rafael Rivera in 1829. Writer John C. Fremont arrived in Las Vegas territory in 1844, and his writing helped attract pioneers to the area. In 1855, members of The Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints selected Las Vegas as the place to build a fort halfway between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. In 1905, Las Vegas was founded as a city when acres of land adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks were auctioned off in what is now known as the downtown area. Las Vegas was incorporated as a city in 1911. The aftermath of World War II saw Vegas become home to gambling casinos, hotels, and big-name entertainment. The city got the nickname "Atomic City" due to the nuclear weapons testing at the Nevada Test Site in 1951. The first racially integrated casino in Vegas, Moulin Rouge Hotel was opened in 1955.

Sports
Residents of Las Vegas love sports, and hockey is the city's favorite sport. The Vegas Golden Knights, who play in the National Hockey League, enjoy massive support in the city. Their home games at the T-Mobile Arena are almost always sold out. Las Vegas Raiders compete in the National Football League and play their home games at the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise. Another major sports attraction to the city is the mixed martial arts which is headquartered in Vegas. The Ultimate Fighting Championship frequently holds fights at the T-Mobile Arena and the UFC Apex training facility.

Night Life
Been to Beverly Hills? Hollywood? New York? And experienced their amazing nightlife? I'm sorry to break it to you, but none comes to the Vegas nightlife experience. While The Strip might be the central hub of Vegas nightlife, you will find something to do in every other part of the city. Drai's at Las Vegas Blvd offers 24 hours service, including a nightclub, cafe, shopping, and casino, and so does the Omnia too at Las Vegas Blvd. You can also enjoy 24 hours food at places like Blueberry Hill, Lucky Penny Cafes, Roberto's Taco Shop, Distill, and PTs Pubs. Sometimes, it's handy to be able to go grocery shopping by 2 am or grab breakfast at 4 am.

Getting outdoorsy in Vegas is easy as the city is surrounded by local hiking trails, amazing parks, and plenty of opportunities for mountain biking. Red Rock Canyon, which is just 20 minutes from the center of the town, is known as an international destination for rock climbers. Over 5 national parks are within a few hours' drive of Vegas, including the Zion, Death Valley, Four Corners, Yosemite, Escalante Canyon, and Valley of Fire. You can also enjoy excellent rock climbing, hiking, and mountain biking at Mt.Charleston and American Alpine Institute.
