Nampa began in the 1800s after constructing the Oregon Short Line Railroad. New amenities continued to influence its growth and development. Developments such as the Lakeview School in the 1890s and the Dewey Palace hotel in 1902 influenced the city’s expansion. While the city experienced a devastating fire in 1909, it continued to experience growth, including the construction of the Idaho State School and Hospital in 1910. The residents established a unique culture such as festivals and rodeos. After World War II, the city experienced further growth with new amenities that could sustain the growing population. Today, Nampa is the largest city in Canyon County, Idaho, with an increasing population.

One of the first things you should do is visit the Canyon County Historical Museum, which features the Union Pacific Railroad and county memorabilia. The museum is one of the state’s finest examples of Baroque Revival architecture. Nampa is 31.34 square miles, most of which is dry land. The city is about 20 miles west of Boise, the capital and most populous city of Idaho, along Interstate 84. Nampa is 100 miles west of Meridian, a city in Ada County, Idaho. The metropolis is in the southwestern region of Idaho, and it lies in the center of the Boise Valley. Nampa is also situated in the heart of Treasure Valley or “Banana Belt,” southwest of Idaho. It rests on a high desert landscape, bordering the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains to the north and Owyhee Mountains to the south. The city’s location gives it an ideal climate for agriculture. Additionally, the city has an elevation of 2,492 feet above sea level.
