Atlanta city was initially founded as the terminus of a major state-sponsored railroad, more specifically, at the end of the Western & Atlantic railroad line in 1837. Atlanta's name history began from the time it was first sobriquet as a terminus for its rail location. Later on, it was named Marthasville in tribute to Governor Wilson Lumpkin's daughter, Martha, and then changed afterwards to Atlanta, the feminine of Atlantic, after a suggestion was made by John Edgar Thomson, Chief Engineer of the Georgia Railroad. This signified the city's growing reputation as a major center of transportation. The residents of Atlanta approved the name, and the city was incorporated as Atlanta on December 29, 1847. Atlanta remains the fastest growing city with a transportation hub not just for the city or country but also for the world. The city prides itself on having the third-largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the country and has developed as a banking center. Indeed, In the turbulent 60s, Atlanta was "the city too busy to hate." But today, in the 21st century, Atlanta is the "city not too busy to care."

Sports
If you love sports, Atlanta is the place to call home. The city has four professional sports teams and several college teams. Atlanta United of Major League Soccer enjoys the largest followership among sports teams in the state. The city was flooded with the club's fans after their 2019 U.S. Open trophy win at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves (Major League Baseball) play their home games at Trust Park, while the National Basketball team Atlanta Hawks play at the State Farm Arena. The other professional sports team in the city, Atlanta Falcons (football), play their games at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

You can’t claim to have been to Atlanta if you never tried the famous hot dogs with a shake at the Varsity. The Varsity is the world's largest drive-in restaurant, and it's right in downtown Atlanta. A walk through the farmers' market will also give you access to fresh vegetables and sandwiches. Take a stop at Lee's Bakery to enjoy fantastic pho and banh mi or the city's best sushi at Sushi Hayakawa.

Culture
Commonly referred to as Hotlanta due to its diverse and active nightlife, Atlanta is the go-to place for fun in Georgia. Atlanta loves festivals, and there are several festivals scheduled all year round to keep the city's residents in a party mood. The Atlanta Jazz festival, usually held in September, attracts lots of tourists to the city. Some of the country's most prominent musicians are also invited to commemorate the event with live performances. Other major festivals celebrated in the city include Dragon Con Atlanta, Music Midtown Atlanta and Candler Park Music, and Food Festival.

The city is also home to famous artists such as Cardi B, Gucci Mane, Ludacris, and Cee Lo Green.

Recreational Parks
Formerly known as a city in the forest, Atlanta has green spaces with beautiful landscapes all around the city. A trip to Chastain Park Buckhead will leave you in awe of nature’s beauty. The park is 268-acre with facilities such as tennis courts, a golf course, walking trails, a gymnasium, playground, softball diamonds, and a swimming pool.

The park also has an amphitheater used for concerts and parties. The Piedmont Park at Park and Gardens is lovely, and it has great picnic areas. Other parks in the city include the Centennial Olympic Park, Historic Fourth Ward Park, Hurt Park, and Grant Park, the oldest in the city.
