Despite the fact that the streets are often busy with people, there is a narrow selection of entertainment venues, and places to go out at night are well-distributed throughout the neighborhood. Highland is good for those who like quiet areas, as the streets are reasonably peaceful, although that is not the case near the railway line or US Highway 87. It is easy to access parks in the neighborhood since there are a few of them close by for residents to check out.
Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing around one third of buildings in Highland, and the remaining properties are mainly large apartment buildings, small apartment buildings, and townhouses.
