This article explores the residences of six Republican presidential candidates when they are not campaigning or staying in hotels. Mitt Romney, the wealthiest candidate, owns multiple homes across the U.S., including properties in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and California. Rick Santorum, the former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania, currently stays with family after selling his Virginia home. Ron Paul resides in Lake Jackson, Texas, in a home he purchased in 1968. Rick Perry, Texas Governor, rented a mansion near Austin while the Governor's Mansion was being restored. Jon Huntsman, who recently exited the race, lived in a Washington D.C. townhouse during his campaign. Newt Gingrich resides in McLean, Virginia. The article highlights the candidates' homes as symbols of their success and delves into the trade-off of these residences for a chance at the White House.
This article discusses where the six Republican presidential candidates reside when they are not on the campaign trail or staying at hotels during their travels around the country to gain support from voters prior to the GOP primary elections that will determine who will be nominated to run against President Barack Obama this coming November. A brief overview of each candidate’s current residence is given along with some background information about each contender for the nomination from both within and outside of politics.
The former Massachusetts governor is the wealthiest of all the candidates running for president. The 64-year-old GOP front-runner made a fortune in venture capital and private equity, and he’s been able to use that wealth to help him win the early primaries. Romney owns a number of homes, including one in Belmont, MA (above) where he was governor from 2003-2007. Romney sold another home, in Park City, UT, last year for $5.25 million. He also has a home on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire and an oceanfront property in La Jolla, CA.
The former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania has been staying with family during his run for the White House since he sold his Virginia home in 2010. Santorum lost his seat to Bob Casey Jr. by nearly 18 points after serving two terms as senator from Pennsylvania. He later became a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center before deciding to make his own run for president.
Representative Ron Paul was born in Pittsburgh but now calls Lake Jackson, TX home. The Republican congressman is making another attempt at presidential politics this year after being elected to Congress numerous times over several decades. Paul (above) purchased his Texas home for $125,000 back in 1968 when he was practicing medicine full-time as an OB/GYN physician. The home has four bedrooms and two baths with 1,728 square feet of living space.
Texas Governor Rick Perry’s rental mansion above is located just outside Austin on Lake Travis. Perry has lived there since selling his previous residence at a loss last year. Perry put his previous Austin-area house on the market last February for $1.85 million but ended up selling it for just under $1 million six months later – taking roughly an $800k hit on the deal because of declining real estate values due to the recession.
Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman Jr., who dropped out of the race earlier this month and endorsed Romney, listed this Washington D.C.-area townhouse shortly before announcing he would not pursue his bid for president any further. Huntsman had purchased the townhome (above) for $3.6 million back when he was President Obama’s ambassador to China — part of what turned out to be a short-lived stint that saw Huntsman resigning from that post so that he could start prepping himself for his own presidential bid against Obama last year.

The White House is the official residence and workplace of the President of the United States. It is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C., and has been the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800. The home was designed by Irish-born James Hoban and built between 1792 and 1800 of white-painted Aquia sandstone in the Neoclassical style.
The White House was originally referred to as the President's Palace, the President's House, the Executive Mansion, and the Executive Residence. President Theodore Roosevelt officially gave the White House its current name in 1901. The name White House was first used in 1811 when it appeared in a newspaper advertisement for repairs being done to the building.
The White House has been remodeled and renovated over the years to suit the needs of various presidents and their families. The most significant changes were made in 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt had the building enlarged and the facade modernized. The East Wing was added in 1942, and the West Wing and Oval Office were added in 1909 and 1934 respectively.
The White House is one of the most iconic buildings in the world and is a symbol of democracy and freedom. It is a large building that covers approximately 55,000 square feet and has 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 6 levels in the residence. The White House also has two wings, the East Wing and the West Wing, and a large garden and grounds.
The White House is home to many interesting features, including a bowling alley, theater, and a swimming pool. It also includes a library, a gym, a tennis court, and several other recreational facilities. It is also home to the world-famous Oval Office, the president's private study, which is decorated with portraits of past presidents and is the location where many of the president's important decisions are made.
The White House is also home to the First Family and the president's staff. It is constantly monitored by the Secret Service and is filled with state-of-the-art security features. The residence is also filled with many historic artifacts and works of art from around the world. The White House is a living museum and an important part of American history.

Republicans took majority control of the House, ousting Democrats from key positions of power and complicating President Joe Biden's legislative hopes for the remainder of his term. The outcome in the House was expected, but it didn't happen in the way Republicans hoped it would. Instead, Republicans are projected to take a slim lead in the House — 221-214. The results widened a rift within the party, as some conservatives quickly blamed their losses in winnable races on former President Donald Trump's influence over the quality and messaging of key candidates.
Trump has defended his endorsement record while lashing out at his critics, including multiple Republican leaders. One day before NBC's projection, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy won a party vote to become the GOP nominee for speaker of the House. Democrats' performance cut against a persistent narrative that they were vulnerable due to a range of factors. Biden's low approval ratings hardly helped Democrats in tough House and Senate races.
While Democrats overcame political headwinds in major swing states, they faltered in New York. The president congratulated McCarthy and expressed a willingness to work across the aisle.
The trade of a home for the White House is a risk many Republican candidates are willing to take. The White House is an iconic building filled with history, but it also comes with its own set of challenges and responsibilities. Although the current crop of GOP candidates all have their own houses and properties, they are all vying for the chance to reside in the White House. It is unclear whether the trade will be worth it for any of the candidates, but the possibility of being the leader of the United States is a risk many of them are willing to take.
The homes of the Republican presidential candidates are a symbol of their success. Mitt Romney is the wealthiest of all the candidates and owns homes in multiple states. Ron Paul has a Lake Jackson home that he is selling without a real estate agent or broker. Rick Perry rents an expensive mansion when the Governor’s Mansion is being restored. Rick Santorum bought a yellow Colonial-style home with five acres of land in Great Falls, VA for $2 million. All of these homes are a testament to the success of the respective candidates.
The trade of a home for the White House could make or break the candidates. Although the White House is an iconic building, it also comes with its own set of challenges and responsibilities. It may be tempting for the candidates to trade their homes for the White House, but they must remember that the outcome of the trade is out of their control. The result of the trade will ultimately determine the fate of the candidates and whether or not they made the right decision.
